Course Descriptions

Bag Work 1 An absolute must for all beginner, intermediate and advanced students.  This course helps you develop fundamental striking power and covers the most important combinations used in the pugilistic arts.  Topics covered include: fundamentals, safety points, training strategies, stationary and swinging bag, shadow boxing, guard, movement, control, jab and power combinations with front, side and roundhouse kicks, rounds training and cool down.

Bag Work 2 Following on from the fundamentals covered previously, this course concentrates on the use of the range and circling with specific focus on short range punches, hooks and uppercuts, multi-range combinations, specialised strikes including over-hand right, spinning backfist, jumping punch and turning kick.

Grappling 1 Grappling is a hugely important area in martial arts and this course is highly recommended for all students as it forms part of the school syllabus.  It covers warm-up, conditioning, strength exercises, break-falls and the fundamental principals of clinch, set-up, shoot-in, take down, take down defence and ground control.

Grappling 2 This course introduces a number of different categories of take downs and throws.  There is greater emphasis to drilling fast execution of techniques.  The second part of the course concentrates on the ground control techniques including pins such as side controls, mount and knee of the stomach.  The student is introduced to the 'switching' strategy in ground control, finishing techniques including arm bars, chokes and sleepers as well as knee, elbow and forearm smashes.

Grappling 3 An in-depth understanding of the basic fundamentals is required before progressing to this level.  This course covers additional throws and specialist take downs and dumps, counters to throws and take downs, sit out drills, additional holds such as the scarf hold and rear mount, escapes from pins, attacks from various guard positions, chokes and strangles, ground and pound and leg lock techniques.
