The stick is usually the first weapon taught in Hung Kuen since it is the basis for
all stick weapons such as the spear and the pole. Its name 'Monkey Stick' refers to the
way the practitioner uses the weapon, the hands grip and slide on the stick just like the
hands of a monkey on a tree branch.
